Horror Cleaning Simulator - Live Development
Project Intent:
With this project, I intend to release a finished game on Steam, with an 8-month timeline, as it is a spare-time personal project.
Responsibilities So far:
Designing the main level
Level events
Optimized lighting
Cinematics
Triggering level beats
Building complex systems using blueprints
Runtime data Driven Text Message system
3 slot inventory and cleaning tools system
Game progression tracking
Main menu and UI
Game Overview:
After The After Party is a single-player first person horror cleaning simulator. You wake up the evening after hosting a massive house party whilst your mom is away. Now home all alone, it's time to clean up. As you are cleaning the house, you come to learn of strange events that happened through speaking to you're friends. Maybe you are not alone after all.

Why The Changes?
The initial plan was for the game to be primarily a cleaning simulator, as shown in the diagram above. Along with a small element of horror regarding the player being home alone and a planned scary ending when mom returns. The cleaning system was planned to be progressive, so you buy a tool > use it to clean up > purchase an upgrade to clean up faster > buy a new tool etc. I felt like this system didn’t really fit into the games setting and I wanted to lean more into the theme of being home alone, too hungover to remember what happened at the party last night, the stress of having to clean up before your mom gets home, and uncovering the truth of what happened through texting your friends. This opened up new doors to explore how I could introduce a greater horror narrative that unveils whilst you’re cleaning the house. This is an example of the shift from cleaning sim to a primarily horror focused game.
